Things To Do in Denali Park
Welcome to Denali. Denali National Park draws people from all over the world.
Its 6 million acres of wilderness have unparalleled wildlife viewing opportunities, spectacular scenery, and, as its centerpiece, some
of the highest peaks of the Alaska Range. Mt. McKinley (also known as “Denali” or “The High One”) is 20,320 feet tall. 1997 was
Denali Park’s 90th anniversary. This guide is meant to help you make the most of your adventure in this part of Alaska. Keep in mind
that although the national park may be the focus of your trip, many services and adventures are offered outside the park’s
boundaries and may provide you with lasting memories of your trip here.
1. Make Reservations
If you come during peak season, you should try to make reservations ahead of your trip. ‘Peak season’ runs from
mid-June to mid-August. You’ll find phone numbers for hotels and campgrounds in the advertisements of this guide. The reservations
for camping space and bus tours in the park are available either on the web or by phone.

2. Where To Stay
Camping There are five campgrounds inside the park boundaries in use this season. At the peak of the season, they require
reservations. well in advance. Private campgrounds, with full RV hookups, are available outside the park. Hotels, Cabins & B&B’s
There are accommodations between Talkeetna and Nenana all along the Parks Highway. During the summer months, it’s best to plan ahead
and call in a reservation at least 2 or 3 days before your expected arrival.
3. Where To Eat
Outside of the major cities, Denali is one of the few places in Alaska to offer a wide range of dining opportunities. You
can find fine dining, casual dining, family dining and dining along with entertainment. Many places offer sandwiches and lunches for your
bus trip.
4. Park Activities
In the park, go to the Wilderness Access Center to confirm your reservations and start your bus trip. A separate visitor
center is just
beyond the reservation center. In the visitor center, you’ll learn about the park and its animals and history, as well as about park-sponsored
hikes, kennel tours, and educational opportunities.
5. Other Adventures
The Denali area has many businesses which offer hiking, rafting, horseback rides, fishing, flightseeing, shopping, tours,
biking, kayaking, gear rental, kennel tours, theater entertainment, photography, ATV tours, educational seminars, quilting, and bus trips.
